PTBA Families,

We hope this post finds you and your loved ones well. We wanted to post an update regarding our upcoming PTBA basketball season, given the national COVID-19 crisis.

The school district's health and safety plan currently states that "Non-essential visitors and volunteers will not be permitted in the schools." We spoke with the Athletic Director and he confirmed that outside groups will not be given access to the gyms at this time. He sympathized with our situation and said he will keep us posted if the plan should happen to change.

The board has had several conversations over the summer regarding how our basketball season might look this year. We already had concerns about how we were going to be able to manage all of the social distancing and other safety requirements, given the fact that basketball is a contact sport. Now that we are without a facility, we have no choice but to suspend the season until further notice.

We know this will be disappointing news for our players. We will definitely keep everyone posted if the the district's health and safety plan changes in time for us to pull something together.

We hope everyone has a successful school year!

About the PTBA

The Penn Trafford Basketball Association (PTBA) aims to win teach young players the fundamental skills necessary to become good basketball players and to help them develop the work habits, sportsmanship, and commitment necessary to succeed at higher levels.  We offer both competitive and recreational programs that promote basketball through games, practices, and coaching.

The association is a non-profit organization, relying upon volunteers for its organization and duties.  The PTBA is committed to providing a safe environment for our players.  All coaches and assistants are required to provide the necessary background clearances to the board before the season begins.

Students in grades 3-12, who reside in the Penn-Trafford School District, are eligible to register.  Enrollment in the Penn-Trafford School District is not required.  The PTBA values every player who participates in the program and recognizes that they are people first and players second.  Teams are drafted and balanced within the "in-house" program as much as possible.  Equal playing time is also given to players, unless there is a health reason or disciplinary reason that has been discussed between the coach and the parent/guardian before the start of the game.
